The DLP Lamp exploded within two weeks of placing it in our TV. At this time it is unknown if damage was done to the TV. As stated within the warranty we sent the lamp back on May 9. It is now May 20 and we have not received a replacement for it.

I bought a replacement DLP lamp from Discount DLP TV Lamps and the lamp burned out in 29 days. The company was lax in responding to the return and eventually I had to return the lamp on my own nickel and they still haven't replaced the lamp or returned my cost--$140+ in addition to about $28 shipping the burned out lamp back to them. Amazon, although they talked a big game about guarantee has been no help and does not respond to emails about this issue. I suggest you buy somewhere else other than Amazon and from someone else other than Discount TV Lamps. I hate to have o write a review like this, but I have been left high and dry.

 "Customer service sucks!!!!!!" 2010-04-27
By Nyccole Hutson (OH USA)
I purchased this lamp with expedited shipping..it took me over almost two weeks to even get the lamp, although I will say that I do not believe that it was the fault of this company. However, after having the lamp for only nine days in a television that had probably been used five of those nine days, the lamp made some whizzing sound and then blew. I couldnt believe it! I immediately contacted the company with this issue because they offered a warranty and they proceeded to tell me it was not their lamp and I should have my television serviced. In the meantime, they said to send their lamp back and after they verify that I have sent them the original lamp that they sent me I would receive the replacement lamp and this would be the ONLY replacement I would get, as if I was trying to scam them to get an extra lamp like I want my television sitting there unviewable. In order to get rush on this, I sent the lamp back thru priority mail two day delivery with a confirmation. The company received my lamp on April 1st, and as of today, April 27th, have failed to respond with anything, not so much as an email stating that they've even received it. I have sent two emails asking if they plan to honor their warranty with no response. I have also had my television serviced, at their request, and the technician told me everything was fine. My initial review of this company was a fair one, but I stated I was waiting to get an issue resolved. Well, in my opinion, their customer service sucks!!!

 "Second replacement" 2010-05-23
By A. Feldman (Davis, CA)
Ordering was easy. It was delivered promptly. It installed easily; however, I had excellent instructions from my first replacement which was purchased from Samsung. This second replacement bulb/housing did not have instructions. There may be instructions by Samsung on the web; I didn't look. It works fine. The original and first-replacement bulbs lasted about 2 years each - hope this one does the same.

Our Samsung TV was getting a little dim and I wasn't sure if it was the bulb's fault. The shipping was faster than expected and, using the TV user's manuel, I put the new bulb in with little or no problem. I had a little tough time getting it lined up but when I did, I slid right in. The results are great; looks like we have a new TV.

TV never looked right from day one. Terrible quality. Now the TV shuts off every 2-3 minutes. No help from Amazon. Samsung is horrible. Web-service hell. Input serial number multiple times. Input problem multiple times. Create account - I get nothing but spams. Website keeps rejecting service request. Finally gave up. Will never buy any Samsung product again. $1299 for a product that sucks. I will never buy anything from Amazon again except books which are easily returnable. They push you off to manufacturer but in the legal world they are 100% responsible because they sold a faulty product. Who wants to sue them over a TV. Be wary of buying expensive items online - you can get screwed with very little recourse.

 "Do not buy Samsung" 2009-06-22
By William D. Turnipseed
I purchased a Samsung television about eighteen months ago. Two weeks ago the picture became all distorted. Since my television warranty was through Circuit City I had no choice but to call a television repair person out to look at it. As soon as he walked in the door he knew what the issue was. He told me that the part would cost almost as much as the television and that his recommendation was to throw away the television and purchase another one. After doing some research I discovered that there were quite a few Samsung televisions that were going out and that the parts were on backorder for about a month. Samsung was also not helpful. I trying to discuss this with SamsungTweets on Twitter, but he blocked me when I asked why nobody called me like he said they would. The only other answer I got from Samsung was that I needed to take it to a service center; this is after I told them that a television repair person had looked at it. From what I can tell from looking on television repair forums, Samsung televisions look to be pretty flakey.

Our 56 inch Samsung DLP TV worked fine for a year and then just become completely unreliable and shuts off every day. Found a dozen forums with complaints about Samsung DLP's-stay away from Samsung DLP's. TV keeps shutting off every couple of hours. Worst $1700 I ever spent-buy LCD's or Plasma. I bought a 42" LCD(Magnavox) 2 years ago-not one single problem-play Xbox 360 on it every day.

"Best Bang For The Buck" 2007-06-17
By R. Ignarra (Orange County)
What a great TV. Picture is awesome on DVD and HD. Standard def doesn't look so hot, but that's got more to do with the cable source (and the fact that my GF insists on watching standard def in stretched mode).

It also works great hooked up to a computer as a monitor. video streamed over the network looks really good, and it displays its native 1280 * 720 very nicely as a windows desktop. I bought a wireless keyboard - with mouse built in- from Fry's, and now I really enjoy surfing the internet from my couch.

I bought this TV in February '07, when amazon had it on sale for $1,250 with free shipping. What an awesome deal. Since we got this TV (which dwarfs the 30" CRT that used to be our living room TV, but now lives in the bedroom), we've been watching everything from standard def to HD to tons of DVD's -- upscaled by our Sony upscaling player (also great, it remembers the position of the last 6 DVD's and movied played on it through HDMI look wonderful). The difference from before we got the TV to now is so amazing it's hard to describe. Though you get used to the awesomeness pretty quick, you still say to yourself "Man I love this TV" at least once a week. We now host a weekly LOST viewing every wednesday, and are looking for a new show to watch with our friends every week now that LOST is in reruns. My money is on Entourage.

My DVD collection has grown by leaps and bounds since I got this TV, largely thanks to blockbuster's awesome and frequent used DVD deals. But, I digress, back to he TV. I love this TV so much I feel like I ripped Amazon off. Though it doesn't do 1080p, there is no 1080p content on TV just yet so it looks as good as anything else can unless you're a gamer or own an HD optical format player. Haven't noticed a rainbow effect, and neither has the GF. We went to the store before buying this TV to see if we could see the rainbow effect and neither of us could. YMMV on that.

Pros: Great picture (after you mess with the menus a bit)

Can't beat the price for this screen size with any other technology.

Great Build Quality (after 4 months of ownership)

Cons: It'll need an expensive new bulb sometime next year at the rate we're putting hours on it.

No 1080p

Remote sucks and is worthless (but, who actually uses the remote that came with their TV for anything except accessing he tv menu?)

Bottom line: You cannot beat this TV in terms of screen size, features or quality for the price.

 "3 year disposable TV." 2010-07-02
By Patrick (Big D)
It worked great for 1 year, had excellent picture and was great for sports. Each time I've replaced the lamp, it's the same story, small horizontal black lines start appearing and the TV turns off on its own. Usually 3-4 months after that the lamp goes out. I was told that I would need to buy a lamp every 2-3 years. Unfortuantely, Samsung did not tell me this when I purchased it. Samsung is in a lawsuit because of this TV. Worst. TV. EVER. Paid $1600 three years ago, have gone through 2 lamps.

"Great TV, even after 4 years" 2010-02-15

About four years ago, back when they were open, we decided to get an HDTV at Circuit City, and we bit the bullet and got this. Recently, my Dad moved out, and decided to by his own TV, so we got to keep this. After 4 years, this TV is still in great condition, and couldn't be better. Picture quality is beautiful, very crisp and nice, nothing not to like. Sound quality is average for any TV, pretty good. Reliability is great, not even a single problem, and that's just great. The only thing might be it's looks- the back is still bulky and big, but the front looks great. If you can find it anywhere now, buy this TV. It's very reliable, great picture, and and overall amazing performance.

 "Disposable TV?" 2009-12-27
By Amazon Shopper (Southern CA)
This is a good looking TV with a great picture. However, I think it's long-term quality is suspect. You should know that the bulb (about $120) only lasts about 2 years, so figure this into your buying decision. I've also read a lot of "fix-it" sites that claim after a few years, parts start malfunctioning. I've had this TV for about 3+ years, on my second replacement bulb, and now the TV is shutting off randomly. Yay.

It's a good TV, but for the price, consider it disposable after a few years.

"Worked great for TWO years, then...JUNK" 2009-11-29
By D. Malott
For approximately the first two years that we owned this product, it worked great. After that...the TV began to spontaneously turn off by itself. We had purchased the extended warrantly, so we called a repair tech in. He said that it was the bulb and replaced it. This did not solve the problem. Now the TV turns off during every use at different intervals, but sometimes does so every 2 or 3 minutes. It can't be turned back on right away, because even though the lights on the front will come on (in green)nothing else will happen. A wait of 30 seconds or more is needed for it to come all the way back on again. After looking online, I read that this problem is not uncommon to this TV. I guess we are going to call the repairman again. Hopefully he fixes it this time and doesn't just say it's our bulb or some other lower cost item, since our warrantly is only good for a few more months. I am so disgusted with this TV, which was thousands of dollars. You'd think it would last longer than a couple of years.

"Excellent when it works.... Poor Quality and Customer support" 2009-10-06
By Shal Jani (Pok, NY)
I have this TV for little more than 2 1/2 years. It has great picture quality in HD when it works. Non-HD is Okay with Settelite programming, but poor with Cable, but his may be the issue with the way both service works.

Real problem is the quality of product. Recently, I started seeing white DEAD PIXELs on my TV. "Dead pixel" are those that does not change. I contected the Tech service 'live call' on internet. Not much help, except told me to unplug TV for couple of mins and restart. Which I did but did not clear the problem. That's all the Tech support can do for this problem. They suggested to have my TV checked out by their repair technician, which could cost me in "Hundreds". I am in process of contacting the repair department and will get an estimate. Will post the remaining story here. But as per, Tech on live call, this could be MDM unit (micro device mirror), which has millions of micro mirrors and may have been a problem or the board where it controls the mirrors. When I searched on google about the DEAD PIXEL DLP SAMSUNG, I found so many people has this problem. Add to this is the horrible customer support that they had. One person has to go throug the Atterney General to get refund. Eitherway, TV of 2 1/2 year should not have this problem. This is basic QUALITY issue with SAMSUNG and they knows this very well. All they want is your $$$.

I am going to stay away from the SAMSUNG product for all my feature purchase.

"Stay away from Samsung products" 2009-10-02

Before buying any Samsung products, Google for Samsung DLP or LCD TV problems. You will be shocked. I have exact same problem, power-off after 3years' usage and paying $3,300 on 61" DLP TV. What did I do? Through Google help, I installed the power conditioner ($300.00) and little fan ($7.00) with my finger crossing. So far so good.

But, my friend bought 56" same model as mine about the same time. He spent $600 to repair power-off problem replacing some board whatever because my ad-hoc repair didn't work for him.

Don't be suckers for Samsung.

PS. As a Korean-American, I feel shame with this terrible Korean company.

By M. Rei (Brooksville, FL USA)
After much research (about a year) we finally decided to purchase a 61" Samsung DLP for $4,500 delivered. While we were thrilled for the first year, just shortly after that, the bulb went. Okay, no problem as this is typical, BUT just 10 months later, I shut her off for the evening and she has been dead ever since. It's been months now, and we are being told to just replace it as parts needed are too expensive and labor is astronomical. WHAT??? You mean we've used this TV all of 2-2.5 years and it's obsolete? I didn't even spend half the original purchase price on our daughter's first car. Samsung knows that there are problems with these TV's, and they do not stand behind their product. Anyone know what I can do w/this huge TV I have still in place like a ghost who taunts me??? We tried replacing the bulb again--Nope! We tried replacing the ballust--Nope! Now, we're too gun shy to purchase again!

 "Do Your Homework" 2009-04-21
By JSA (Florida USA)
I have to agree with Robin. Thousands of outraged Samsung DLP owners have come to seriously regret ever buying one. Samsung DLPs appear to have some major design flaws. The most common symptoms we encounter after 1-2 years are:

1) Set contiuously turns itself off

2) White or green dots begin appearing across screen

3) Ghosting, lines, or afterimages on screen (event though DLPs do not suffer burn-in)

#1 is typically caused by degradation of the lamp, lamp ballast, and colorwheel as they break-in together. When the lamp starts to go (all lamps have a limited life-span) it can indirectly cause a cascade failure in the sensors of the other two components. Sometimes, the ballast and colorwheel check out on the o-scope and meter, but they register a new lamp as a fault. Either way, all 3 components usually have to be replaced at about $400 in parts. #2 & #3 require even costlier repairs.

I usually advise folks (who don't have a Svc Plan) not to waste their money trying to repair it; just bite the bullet and go purchase a more reliable brand. They really don't like hearing that, but it's just not cost-effective for them to repair something for half the purchase price of a better comparable set.

You don't have to take my word for it. Try Googling "Samsung DLP problems" or "Samsung DLP turns off" and see for yourself.

Samsung still uses the same basic design.

Samsung still officially denies any design flaws.

The seller was notified, by phone, that the replacement did not include the housing and the additional charges for the housing should be credited. He looked up the order and immediately gave a refund. Except for this error, which might mean that quality control is lacking, I am pleased with the purchase.

My initial review of this company was a fair one, but I stated I was waiting to get an issue resolved. Well, in my opinion, their customer service sucks!!!
